Exmerge was a very useful tool for exporting a mailbox into a PST (personal storage) file or for deleting a virus caused by an email. This tool has been introduced in Exchange 5.5 and has also been released online for Exchange 2007. However, Exmerge for Exchange 2010 is not an option as Microsoft decided to scrape it off in favor of new cmdlets that are based in PowerShell. The functions that replaced Exmerge in Exchange 2010 are the Export-Mailbox and Import-Mailbox functions. For Litigation Personnel and administrators that regularly move emails out of the server, the changes in Exchange 2010 will make their lives easier. For example, Export-Mailbox now allows you to move just the mailbox content and not the whole mailbox. If you are to move a whole mailbox then there is another function for you: Move-Mailbox. While the Exchange 2010 may no longer have the Exmerge function, the new cmdlets are equally as useful and they do more than the Exmerge can do.
