Review on Lace WigsLace wigs are wigs that are made from a lace base ventilated with hair. The hair can be single, or double knotted to the lace and can either be synthetic hair or human hair.
Lace wigs used to be an acting prop worn by Hollywood stars in movies until recently. Celebrities like Beyonce have made them very popular and as a result many more people wear these wigs.
The whole point of a lace wig is to create the illusion of natural hair growing out of the scalp. For this to happen, the lace colour must be matched to the colour of the natural skin tone. The wig is attached most commonly with a silicon based adhesive which is applied around the edges of the scalp before the wig is applied.
If fitted properly a lace wig can be an excellent accessory to have and appear as natural as ones hair. That is if fitted properly by someone who knows what they are doing and has the proper equipment to not only match the lace colour to the natural skin tone, but also the right scalp protecting sprays, adhesives and remover.
Improper removal of a lace wig can lead to traction alopecia as the hair is ripped out of the root with the wig. A purpose made lace wig remover should always be used to take the wig off. There are oil based removers and alcohol based removers. The oil based removers are recommended because they are gentler on the skin.
Lace wigs should not be used to hide hair loss around the hairline like traction alopecia. An appropriate traction alopecia treatment should used to regrow hair while the wig isn’t being worn. Wearing a lace wig will restrict access to the scalp and topical treatments won’t be feasible to use. Lace wigs should only be fitted by qualified professionals.
